Hythe has a proper town centre with a High Street that still works, independent shops, cafes, and a decent butcher. The Royal Military Canal runs along the north side of town and is good for walks. The seafront is shingle rather than sand, so it's more for dog walking than bucket and spade holidays. Housing stock is mixed, with some nice period townhouses on the streets behind the High Street, Edwardian villas up the hill towards Saltwood, and more modern estates on the western edges. It has an older demographic and a quieter feel than Folkestone. The train station closed decades ago, so you're driving to Folkestone or Sandling for rail connections. Schools are reasonable, and families do settle here, though it lacks the buzz that Folkestone's Creative Quarter has brought to its neighbour.
