Langdon Hills sits on one of the highest points in south Essex and feels genuinely different from the rest of Basildon. The country park on the old plotland sites is excellent, with proper woodland walks, wildflower meadows, and views across the Thames estuary to Kent. The residential streets are largely 1970s and 80s houses, well kept, with a suburban feel that's closer to Billericay in character than Basildon. There's a small parade of shops at the top of the hill and a well-regarded primary school. Laindon station is at the bottom of the hill. Families like it because you get the green space and the slightly elevated feel without paying Billericay prices.
