Blackheath is one of those rare London areas that genuinely feels like a village despite being only twenty minutes from central London. The heath itself is a huge draw, especially for dog walkers and families, and Blackheath Village has a proper high street with independent shops, delis and gastropubs that you would not expect to find in Zone 3. Transport is a strong point with Blackheath and Maze Hill stations both within walking distance, and the area consistently ranks among the most desirable places to live in south London. Schools are generally good and the community is active, with events on the heath throughout the year.
