Longfield and New Barn are classic commuter villages straddling the Dartford and Gravesham border. Longfield station gets you to Victoria in about half an hour, which is the main reason people move here. The housing is predominantly 1960s and 70s detached and semi-detached, with some newer builds filling in gaps. New Barn is the quieter of the two, essentially a residential estate tucked into the North Downs with a community hall and not much else. Longfield has a small parade of shops on Station Road that covers the basics. Southfleet is a proper old Kent village with a medieval church and a handful of houses around a green, though the name is more historical than practical for most residents. Families like it for the schools, particularly Langafel primary and Leigh Academy. It is not exciting but it is safe, green, and well connected for the price.
