The streets running up to and along the edge of Epping Forest are some of the most desirable in the area. Large detached houses, many from the 1920s and 30s, sit on generous plots with mature gardens. Some roads back directly onto ancient woodland. It's quiet in a way that makes you forget the Central line is ten minutes away. The trade-off is that you're reliant on a car for shops and schools unless you like a decent walk downhill to the High Road. People pay a premium for the forest-edge position and the sense of living somewhere genuinely green.
