The Roding side of Loughton faces west towards the river and Buckhurst Hill. Housing here is a mix of interwar semis and some post-war estates, with streets that are a bit more tightly packed than the forest side. Loughton tube station is walkable for most. Roding Valley, the nature reserve along the river, provides a different kind of green space to the forest, flatter and more open. It's a practical, middle-of-the-road part of Loughton. Less prestige than the forest edge, less affordable-suburban than Fairmead, just solidly residential.
