Hurley is a proper village on the Thames, upstream from Maidenhead. The old priory ruins, the riverside walk, and Hurley Lock give it genuine character. There is a pub, a village hall, and not much else for daily shopping. The Walthams (White Waltham and Shottesbrooke) are scattered farming hamlets with an airfield that hosts the West London Aero Club. This is deep rural Berkshire, and you will need a car for everything. The houses that come up for sale tend to be period cottages or larger detached properties. It feels a world away from Maidenhead despite being just a few miles out.
