Cliftonville East is the more run-down half of Cliftonville, away from the creative buzz closer to the Old Town. Large Victorian and Edwardian houses, many of them carved up into HMOs and bedsits. This area has received a high volume of temporary housing placements from London boroughs over the years, and the housing stock reflects that. The streets between Northdown Road and the clifftop have a tired feel. There are some good value period properties if you're prepared to renovate, but go in with your eyes open. Northdown Road has a scattering of independent shops and takeaways but nothing that would count as a destination high street.
