Vigo is a distinct settlement south of Meopham village, built mostly in the 1960s and 70s as a planned residential area in the woods. It has its own shops, a community hall, and a primary school but it feels more like a suburban estate dropped into the countryside than a traditional village. The housing is mostly detached and well maintained, owner-occupied families who have been there a while. Sole Street is the nearest station, a tiny halt on the same line as Meopham but less frequent. The surrounding woodland and the North Downs Way make it popular with walkers and dog owners. It is quieter and more tucked away than Meopham itself.
