Walland & Denge Marsh

Walland Marsh and Denge Marsh are the southernmost parts of the Romney Marsh levels, stretching down towards Lydd and Dungeness. Lydd is the only real settlement, a small town with a church known as the Cathedral of the Marsh. There is a modest high street and an army camp nearby. Lydd-on-Sea is a handful of houses behind the shingle. This is genuinely remote, flat Kent with huge skies and not much else. The area around Lydd airport occasionally generates planning controversy about expansion proposals that never seem to happen.
