Ilford is Redbridge's main town centre and it has changed enormously in the last decade. The Elizabeth line arrival was a turning point. The high road has the Exchange shopping centre, a big Sainsbury's, and the usual high street chains alongside a huge variety of South Asian restaurants, gold shops, and grocery stores. The housing around the centre is dense, mostly converted Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Ilford has one of London's most diverse populations and the food reflects that, genuinely excellent Indian and Sri Lankan options. It is not a pretty town centre but it is busy, connected, and everything is there. The new towers going up around the station are changing the skyline.
