Roydon is a proper village, not just a name on a map. There's a green, a pub, a church, and not much else, which is exactly the point. It has its own station on the Lea Valley line into Liverpool Street, which makes it commutable if you don't mind a slower service. The housing is a mix of older cottages and some newer builds, mostly owner-occupied. It sits right on the Essex/Hertfordshire border and feels more like rural Herts than anything to do with Harlow next door. Families who move here tend to stay. The trade-off is that you need a car for basically everything beyond the basics.
