South Oxhey is an LCC overspill estate from the late 1940s, originally housing families moved out of bombed inner London. The estate went through a difficult stretch but has had significant investment in recent years, with the new South Oxhey Centre bringing a Lidl, library, and health centre. Housing is mostly council-built terraces and maisonettes, with some right-to-buy and newer housing association stock. It still feels distinctly different from the rest of Three Rivers, which is mostly affluent and commuter-belt. The community is tight-knit and people who grew up here tend to stay. Bushey station is the nearest rail link, or you can bus to Carpenders Park.
