Chetwood covers the western and central part of South Woodham Ferrers including the town centre and the station. This is where most of the shops, the library, the health centre and the Champions Manor Hall are. The housing is almost entirely 1970s and 80s builds, a mix of detached and semi-detached houses with some terraces, all on curving cul-de-sac layouts typical of that era. Families like it because there are good primaries, a reasonable amount of green space, and kids can cycle around safely. The Crouch estuary marshes sit right on the doorstep, which gives the edges of town a surprisingly open, rural feel despite the whole place being purpose-built.
