The old Surrey Docks were filled in and rebuilt in the 1980s, making this one of London's larger Docklands developments. The housing is mostly 1980s and 90s brick-built houses and flats, arranged around the surviving dock basins which are now used for sailing and fishing. Surrey Quays shopping centre is functional rather than exciting. Canada Water station on the Jubilee line and Overground is the transport hub. Russia Dock Woodland and the ecological park are surprisingly good green spaces. It has a suburban feel that is unusual for somewhere this close to central London. Families and key workers make up a lot of the population.
