Bernards Heath is one of the more sought-after parts of St Albans, sitting just north of the city centre. The heath itself is a large open common that locals use constantly. Streets like Sandridge Road and the roads off it have handsome Edwardian and interwar houses, many of them substantial family homes. Fleetville shops on Hatfield Road are walkable for day-to-day bits, and the city centre is a short walk south. This is where families with good budgets end up when they want space, green on the doorstep, and the cathedral school in catchment. It's leafy and settled without being flashy about it.
