St Peters is the heart of St Albans, covering the city centre, the cathedral, and St Peter's Street which is the main shopping drag. The twice-weekly market on the street is one of the best in Hertfordshire. Independent shops, good pubs (the Ye Olde Fighting Cocks claims to be Britain's oldest), and the cathedral grounds all sit within walking distance. Residential options are a mix of period properties on the side streets, some dating back to medieval times along Fishpool Street and George Street. Verulamium Park and the Roman museum are on the western edge. Living in the centre means you get the full St Albans experience, with the trade-off of traffic, tourists, and prices that reflect the postcode.
