Sopwell is the area south of the city centre, running down towards the Ver valley and the old Sopwell nunnery ruins. It has a real mix of housing, from Victorian workers' cottages at the top end near Holywell Hill to post-war estates and newer builds further out. Cottonmill Lane leads to the lakes and river walks, which are a genuine asset. The area around the old Sopwell House hotel is leafier and more upmarket. It's well placed for the city centre and the station, and the river walks mean you can be in countryside in minutes. A good all-rounder that doesn't command the same prices as the north side of town.
