Verulam

Verulam ward covers the area west of the city centre around Verulamium Park, one of the best urban parks in the region. The park has the Roman remains, the lake, and acres of open space. The streets between the park and the centre, particularly around Fishpool Street and down towards St Michael's, include some of the most characterful and expensive properties in St Albans. St Michael's village has a couple of pubs and a small community feel distinct from the main city centre. Housing ranges from listed medieval cottages to large Victorian and Edwardian villas. If you can afford it and want to be within walking distance of both the park and the high street, this is the spot.
