The stretch between Bethnal Green Road and the top of Brick Lane, running west towards Shoreditch. This was one of the poorest parts of London within living memory and still has large council estates, but the last fifteen years have changed the street level completely. Columbia Road flower market is the anchor on Sundays, and the surrounding streets now have independent shops and cafes that would have been unthinkable a generation ago. The Central line at Bethnal Green gets you into the City quickly. Housing is a mix of ex-council, converted Victorian terraces, and some new builds filling gaps.
