Horsell is the part of Woking that people actually get excited about. The village centre on the High Street has a proper cluster of independent shops, a well-regarded pub (the Bleak House), a village hall, and a cricket green. Horsell Common is where HG Wells set the Martian landing in War of the Worlds, and there's a sculpture to mark it. Housing ranges from Victorian cottages near the village to larger detached houses on the roads out towards the common. It feels genuinely separate from Woking town centre despite being only a ten-minute walk away. Popular with families who want the village feel with a fast commute.
