Hackney Downs takes its name from the park, a proper flat open green space with a good playground and a relaxed weekend atmosphere. The streets around the Downs are classic Hackney: Victorian terraces in various states of renovation, some beautifully done, others still unrenovated. Hackney Downs station on the Overground is useful for Liverpool Street. Amhurst Road runs along the edge and is busy, but the residential streets south of the park are quieter. It sits between Dalston and Stoke Newington, sharing the character of both without being quite as expensive as either.
